Concrete balconies cantilevering from the façade of a residential building are a common site in New York City. However the edges of these balconies can crack and spall. The metal railings can rust and become unstable. A recent modification of FISP added a requirement to inspect all balconies for stability and to verify that the railings meet the code requirements for height and stability.
